Visitor Maps & Heritage Roads

Our Heritage Roads are more than canopy roads, they are glimpses of who we were as a community and pathways to what we want our county to be.

The Heritage Road System

Jefferson County’s topography is wonderfully diverse: scenic rolling hills with farms, ranches, and timberlands; the dramatic drop to the flatwoods at the Cody escarpment; and untouched roads topped by beautiful tree canopies. The Heritage Roads shed light on the exploits of early settlers and explorers, Native American, Spanish, British, and American, and pass the county’s many historic sites.

Four named, color-coded trails make up the system:

  • Miccosukee-Magnolia Trail: Northwest
  • Plantation Trail: Northeast
  • Spanish Trace Trail: Central
  • Flatwoods-Wilderness Trail: Southern

Before you go: check your fuel gauge and cell phone coverage. Slow down and enjoy the view, most drivers still wave when passing each other.
