Public Records Request

Florida’s Public Records Law (Chapter 119, Florida Statutes) gives everyone the right to inspect and copy public records of Jefferson County government.

How to Request a Record

Contact the Jefferson County Public Records Custodian by mail, phone, or email. You do not have to give your name, provide a reason, or submit your request in writing, though a written request helps us fill it accurately and quickly.

What to Expect

We will acknowledge your request promptly and respond in good faith within a reasonable time. Some records, or portions of records, are exempt or confidential under Florida law and may be redacted. Fees for copies, and for extensive staff time where authorized by statute, are charged in accordance with Chapter 119, Florida Statutes.

Records Held by Other Offices

Court records, official records (deeds, mortgages), and Board minutes are maintained by the Clerk of Court & Comptroller. Records of the Sheriff, Property Appraiser, Tax Collector, and Supervisor of Elections should be requested from those offices directly.

A note about email: Under Florida law, email addresses are public records. If you do not want your email address released in response to a public records request, do not send electronic mail to this entity. Instead, contact the office by phone or in writing.
